My current research trajectories consist of low-latency synchronous musical co-creation over distance, aural immersion and broadening of human cognitive bandwidth in automotive scenarios, large-scale digital signal processing, including spatialization, and data sonification, and enhancing K-12 education through integrated technology-mediated experiential learning.<\/p>\n<p>I believe in an integrative and holistic approach to creative scholarship, and a better future through culture and technology.<\/p>\n<p>I received doctorate from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ccm.uc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Cincinnati<\/a> (2005) in computer music and am currently working at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vt.edu\">Virginia Tech<\/a> as the inaugural director of the Creativity + Innovation (<a href=\"http:\/\/ci.icat.vt.edu\">C+I<\/a>) interdisciplinary initiative and the co-director of the\u00a0Human Centered Design (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vthcd.com\/\">HCD<\/a>) individualized interdisciplinary PhD program, a professor in Creative Technologies in Music in the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design&#8217;s (<a href=\"https:\/\/aad.vt.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AAD<\/a>) School of Performing Arts (<a href=\"https:\/\/sopa.vt.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SOPA<\/a>), the founder and director of the Digital Interactive Sound and Intermedia Studio (<a href=\"http:\/\/disis.music.vt.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DISIS<\/a>) and World\u2019s first Linux-based Laptop Orchestra (<a href=\"http:\/\/l2ork.music.vt.edu\/\">L2Ork<\/a>),\u00a0Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.icat.vt.edu\/\">ICAT<\/a>) Senior Fellow, and a member of the Center for Human-Computer Interaction (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hci.vt.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CHCI<\/a>) with a courtesy appointment in the department of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.vt.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Computer Science<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since joining Virginia Tech, I received over $5.7M in external funding from industry and government agencies, including Google, Microsoft, National Science Foundation, NASA, and the Office of Naval Research (a part of US Department of Defense). As a staunch life-long practitioner of and advocate for an integrative approach to education, I have developed custom-tailored Higher Ed frameworks for the implementation, integration, assessment, and affirmation of industry-relevant interdisciplinary education and scholarship. Most recently, this includes working with over hundred faculty, staff, and students on developing a comprehensive interdisciplinary curricular pipeline (undergraduate to PhD) that focuses on the impactful technology-mediated integration of arts, design, and engineering.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am a post-disciplinary creative exploring and building technologies for a better tomorrow.
