As a\u00a0result I became involved in the early development of the\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kde.org\/applications\/utilities\/superkaramba\/\">Superkaramba<\/a> <\/em>project providing a series of patches and improvements that ultimately resulted in the creation of the\u00a0<em>Borealis<\/em> <em>Superkaramba<\/em>\u00a0theme (2004), which is not to be confused with\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ico.bukvic.net\/main\/borealis\/\"><em>Borealis<\/em> sound theme<\/a> I released around the same time. The theme offered smoothly animated retractable widgets, including systray, multiple desktops, CPU, memory, swap, and storage status, management of wired and wireless networks, and the good ole&#8217; Xmms mp3 player. While the project never yielded any formal assessment, it has been downloaded over 30,000 times before it became obsolete, mainly because\u00a0<em>Superkaramba\u00a0<\/em>engine had evolved and eventually got integrated into KDE itself, while I migrated from the now defunct\u00a0<em>Mandriva <\/em>(or what used to be in the old days\u00a0<em>Mandrake<\/em>)\u00a0onto the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ubuntu.com\/\">Ubuntu<\/a><\/em> Linux distribution and its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gnome.org\">Gnome<\/a>-centric desktop.
